But here's the good news: You have thirteen weeks. That's plenty of time to finish your CT CE credits without burning out or breaking the bank. What you need is a realistic, week-by-week plan that fits around your actual life.
Why Q4 Is Actually the Perfect CE Sprint Window
Most CT techs wait until November or December to panic-register for expensive live conferences or rush through low-quality online courses. By starting now — even in small weekly chunks — you'll avoid the year-end scramble and actually retain what you learn.
The ARRT requires 24 CE credits every two years for CT certification, including specific categories like radiation safety CEUs. If you're renewing in 2027, your current biennium ends December 31, 2026. That means everything must be completed, reported, and showing in your account before midnight on New Year's Eve.
A Q4 sprint gives you the breathing room to choose quality courses, spread the cost across three months, and schedule CE time like you'd schedule any other professional responsibility.
Your Week-by-Week CT CE Plan (October Through December)
This calendar assumes you need roughly 24 credits total and you're starting from scratch or close to it. Adjust the pace based on where you actually stand.
October: Build Momentum (Weeks 1-4)
Goal: Complete 8 credits by October 31.

- Week 10 (Dec 8-14): Add 2 credits in cross-sectional anatomy or pathology. Refreshing your ability to spot incidental findings never hurts.
- Week 11 (Dec 15-21): Complete your last 4 credits. Choose topics you've been curious about but haven't had time to explore — AI in radiology, 3D reconstruction techniques, or advanced post-processing.
- Week 12-13 (Dec 22-31): Verify all credits appear in your ARRT account. Check that radiation safety CEUs meet the minimum requirement. Print or save a PDF of your transcript as backup. Do NOT wait until December 30 to discover a reporting error.
Smart Strategies to Make CE Time Actually Happen
A calendar is only useful if you protect the time. Here's how working CT techs actually get it done:
Block CE time like clinical shifts. Treat your two weekly CE hours as non-negotiable. Sunday mornings, post-night-shift wind-down time, or your regular day off — pick a recurring slot and defend it.
Pair CE with your routine. Listen to podcast-style CE audio during your commute (if the course allows it). Complete modules during downtime between cases if your facility permits personal professional development on site.
Leverage your facility's education budget. Many hospitals reimburse ARRT-approved CE or provide free access to platforms like RadiologyEducation.com or Medscape. Ask your lead tech or education coordinator what's available before you pay out of pocket.
Join the ASRT for the CE library. Membership costs around $135 annually but includes access to hundreds of free CE courses, including radiation safety CEUs. If you need 24 credits, the math works strongly in your favor.
What Counts (and What Doesn't) for CT CE Credits
Not all imaging continuing education is ARRT-approved. Before you register:
- Verify the course is recognized for Category A credit (structured educational activities). Category B is self-directed learning and has a 12-credit cap per biennium.
- Confirm at least 1 credit per year addresses radiation safety. This is non-negotiable for CT certification.
- Check that the provider reports directly to ARRT or gives you a certificate you can upload yourself. Courses that don't provide documentation are worthless for compliance, no matter how good the content.
- Understand that live conferences, webinars, online modules, and even some journal article quizzes can all qualify — but only if they're pre-approved.
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
